ENGINEER WATCHKEEPER

Diploma of Maritime Operations (Engineer Watchkeeper)

Do you want to work as Marine Engineer Watchkeeper? This course will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge to use marine tools and equipment such as engines, machinery and systems. You will learn about the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and you will have to undertake an oral examination in order to receive the AMSA Certification.

Following the main requirements to be admitted to this course:

  • Join the AMSA engineer cadet program for at least 3 years; OR
  • Undertake seagoing service of at least 36 weeks on vessels ≥750 kW propulsion power
  • Hold a certified Training Record Book
  • Attend an orientation session prior to starting the course.
  • Attend further qualifications, if required.

IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band score less than 6.0, Equivalent to Australian Year 12 with passes in English and Maths

Between 6 months to 1 year

WATCHKEEPER DECK

Diploma of Maritime Operations – Watchkeeper Deck

Do you want to become a Deck Watchkeeper? This course will enhance your skills and knowledge to work in a cargo, ship, and bridge. You will be able to perform as Deck Watchkeeper (AMSA – Marine Order 70 (Seafarer certification) 2014 and Marine Order 71 (Master and deck officers) 2014) and as Mate < 500GT (AMSA – Marine Order 70 (Seafarer certification) 2014 and Marine Order 71 (Master and deck officers) 2014).

Following the main requirements to be admitted to this course:

  • Hold a completed pre-sea course and Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) onboard training, included at least 24 months of seagoing service on vessels ≥500 GT; OR
  • Undertake at least 36 months seagoing service  on vessels ≥24 m.
  • 12 months on vessels on voyages of at least 24 hours duration.
  • At least 6 months on vessels documented understudy of the officer in charge.
  • Attend further qualifications, if required.

IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band score less than 6.0, Equivalent to Australian Year 12

MARINE ENGINEER

Advanced Diploma of Maritime Operations (Marine Eng. Class 1-2 Unlimited)

Do you want to advance your skills and knowledge in the maritime industry? This course qwill teach you to operate with marine tools and equipment such as engines, machinery and systems and gain theoretical knowledge about the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

Following the main requirements to be admitted to this course:

  • Join the AMSA engineer cadet program for at least 3 years; OR
  • At least 36 months in charge of an engine room watch on vessels  ≥750 kW propulsion power while holding either an Engineer Watchkeeper or Engineer Class 2 certificate of competency, of which at least 12 months was served on vessels ≥3000 kW using propulsion of the kind to which the certificate relates.
  • At least 12 months while holding a certificate of competency as Engineer Class 2; or
(ii) at least 24 months in charge of an engine room watch on vessels ≥750 kW propulsion power of which at least 12 months was served as first engineer on vessels 
≥3000 kW propulsion power using propulsion of the kind to which the certificate relates while holding an Engineer Class 2 certificate of competency;
  • Attend further qualifications, if required.

Between 6 months to 1 year

Year 12 –> Advanced Diploma of Maritime Operations (Marine Eng. 1-2 Unlimited)
